Fort Myers man arrested after forcefully taking teen to park at knifepoint

A Fort Myers man faces several charges after authorities say he encountered a teenage victim walking to their bus stop, forcefully took them to the park and sexually battered them at knifepoint.

Raymond De Jesus, 37, faces charges of kidnapping, inflicting bodily harm or terrorizing a victim and sexual battery with a weapon or force.

When Lee County sheriff’s deputies arrived at Schandler Hall Park, 419 Florence Ave., on Thursday morning, they said they saturated the area with their Aviation Unit, Electronic Surveillance Unit and Major Crimes Unit, among others, as they searched for De Jesus.

The sheriff’s office said detectives quickly learned of De Jesus’ location and discovered he had an active felony warrant.

Assistant State Attorney Anastasia Snetkova on Friday filed a motion for pretrial detention, asking that De Jesus remain in custody without bond until his trial.

De Jesus’ arraignment is set for Oct. 14.
