PREP SWIMMING: Venice, Charlotte show out at Tarpon Invite

PUNTA GORDA — Venice and Charlotte piled up the points against a quality field on Saturday during the annual Tarpon Invitational at South County.

Venice won the girls meet while the boys finished second. Charlotte took third in both.

Community School of Naples won the boys competition.

In the girls’ competition, the Venice contingent was spearheaded by defending Sun Preps Swimmer of the Year Maeve Eckerman, who won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke events. Ridley O’Regan also won her two individual events (200 medley, 200 butterfly). Ellie Krause was first in the 100 breastroke and third in the 100 freestyle.

Makala Milburn (4th, 200 free; 5th 100 free), Elizabeth Khodzhaieva (8th, 200 free), Amanda Kinter (8th 200 medley; 6th 100 free), Arianna Reed (4th, 50 free; 8th, 100 back), Sophia Young (4th, 100 fly; 5th 100 back), Carolina Barry (7th, 100 fly) and Chloe Sullivan (5th, 100 breast) also had top-8 finishes for the Indians’ girls squad.

Kasey Roy matched Eckerman’s two wins with victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle events to lead Charlotte’s girls team. Bella Slagter also picked up a victory, taking the 500 freestyle. She was also third in the 200 free.
