Two years after Hurricane Ian: Drone video shows Matlacha progress

Two years is a long time. But for those of us that were here when Hurricane Ian slammed the Southwest Florida coastline , it almost feels like yesterday.

The fact is, on Sept. 28, we will hit the two-year mark since the powerful Category 4 storm, one of the worst in Florida history for damage and cost. There are still too many reminders around of the devastation from the storm, especially on Fort Myers Beach , Sanibel and Matlacha, the gateway to Pine Island.

Ric Rolon, the drone pilot for The News-Press and Naples Daily News, has been documenting the recovery from Hurricane Ian from high above. The video at the top of this page is the third installment with the first being a look at Matlacha one-year after Ian. Here is that video so you can compare the two:
