Hurricane Milton is still a few days away from making its anticipated landfall in Florida, but the storm is already having an impact on national air travel, including flights from Lehigh Valley International Airport.
The National Weather Service said Tuesday morning that the destructive hurricane is expected to hit Florida’s Gulf Coast on Thursday.
The airport posted on its website that all Allegiant flights after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday headed to Clearwater, Punta Gorda, Sarasota or Orlando/Sanford in Florida were canceled. Allegiant flights headed to those locations from the airport Wednesday and Thursday are also canceled.
Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority spokesperson Colin Riccobon said the notices were given to passengers to find ways to rebook any travel. He encouraged travelers to keep in touch with the airlines for future delays or cancellations.
“Obviously it’ll have an effect on travel over the next few days,” he said, adding that there could be collateral delays post-storm.
