Fishermen’s Village marina damaged, shops closed for now

PUNTA GORDA — With some boats still stacked on one another and others that sank, the Fishermen’s Village marina is closed until further notice.

Hurricane Milton destroyed vessels and parts of the marina. However, the suites and indoor businesses were spared, according to Patti Allen, general manager of Fishermen’s Village.

“We are in recovery mode,” Allen said. “Our harbormaster is working with boat owners for all boats that were in the marina. We are not letting anyone on the docks until it is safe.”

Allen said boat owners should treat their crafts like they would an auto claim.

“Boat owners are responsible for their boats and knowing where they are before and after a storm,” she said.

“For now, the marina is closed so no one can go near it.”

Crews need to clean up.

“We only have partial power. We have plumbers, electricians and air conditioning workers here,” she said. “My team is like a swarm of worker bees. We want to open as quickly as possible, but we are asking everyone to be patient and stay away for now.”
