PEACE RIVER BOTANICAL: Peaceful paintings

PUNTA GORDA — More than 20 area artists put portions of the Peace River Botanical and Sculpture Gardens on canvas recently after an invitation from its board.

“Our hope was to get artists painting here, and ultimately to have them participate in some way in our Orchid Ovation planned for Dec. 5,” Board member and volunteer Judy Droitcour stated in a news release.

Plein air painting groups from from Charlotte, DeSoto, Sarasota and Lee counties were invited to take part, according to the news release.

“We think gardens and art make a good fit together, and we wanted to see how artists could interpret the gardens,” Droitcour stated.

The property suffered damage in Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton, but the news release stated there is still “much beauty to see.”

Officials worked with Susan Hoffman, of the Peace River Painters, along with Gloria Urban, of the Englewood Painters Group, for the Oct. 28 event.

According to the news release, several of the artists will paint again during Orchid Ovation, so guests can watch their work.
