PORT CHARLOTTE — A boondoggle is not always a negative thing.
While the word often has a bad connotation, but it wasn’t the original intention of the word.
A boondoggle originally came from a Boy Scout leader who coined the word for braided cords worn by troop members.
The Port Charlotte Garden Club recently created a boondoggle as a way to pay tribute to Gold Star families and veterans at William R. Gaines Jr. Veterans Memorial Park in Port Charlotte.
According to the club, the boondoggle was “crafted from woven palm fronds… embellished by a red, white and blue ribbon and placed at the Gold Star Families Memorial marker.”
Among the club members involved were Sue Fisher, Sandi Witzke, LeeAnn Ferriola and Gretchen Comeau.
