Plantation Road safety

With the growing number of people moving to our state, it’s clear that our roads and infrastructure are struggling to keep up. I’m writing to bring attention to Plantation Road, which I travel daily. There is a pressing issue here: the lack of a continuous sidewalk, bike lane, or safe shoulder for pedestrians. Given that many residents live along this road, including children and cyclists, it has become an increasingly dangerous area, especially considering the high speed at which cars travel.

Whether you’re new to the area or have lived here your whole life, we should all remember that when we’re behind the wheel, we’re sharing the road with others — people walking, cycling, and children heading to school. Drivers should approach every trip as if it were their own child trying to cross the street or themselves riding a bike to work. This mindset is especially important on streets like Plantation Road, and many others in Fort Myers, where the necessary infrastructure is simply not in place. Just because there aren’t designated walkways or bike lanes doesn’t mean we should forget that real people are using those streets every day.
