Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Venice, Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Sarasota and HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital all continued streaks of “A” safety grades in the latest report from The Leapfrog Group, released Friday.
However, HCA Florida Englewood Hospital saw its grade drop to a “B” after receiving an “A” in every previous report dating back to the second one Leapfrog released, which was the first one the hospital participated in.
The three hospitals in Charlotte County — HCA Florida Fawcett Hospital, ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte and ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda — all received a “C” for at least the fourth consecutive report.
ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda remains closed due to structural damage from the recent hurricanes, Marketing Director John Wright said. The adjacent medical office building has reopened, he added.
DeSoto Memorial Hospital, in Arcadia, which doesn’t participate in the semiannual survey by Leapfrog, was rated a “C,” up from a “D” in April.
“We do not participate in Leapfrog surveys because they are not structured to accurately represent the quality data of smaller hospitals that lack specific service lines,” DMH Public Information Officer Sarah Hipp said via email. “As a result, we are excluded from many of their metrics, which does not provide a true reflection of our quality of care.”
