For the ninth consecutive year, the Florida Gulf Coast University swimming and diving team volunteered with the Salvation Army to create Christmas magic.
The teams worked with the Salvation Army to pass out Christmas gifts to families on Wednesday Dec. 18, 2024.
More than 400 Fort Myers families came in to receive donated gifts for the holiday season.
“It’s an honor to support and help the Salvation Army at this time of year,” said Head Coach Dave Rollins. “Their Angel Tree program helps thousands of families all over Southwest Florida. For us to be able to help provide a little extra cheer for these families is truly heartwarming.”
The entire process began in August 2024, then families signed up to receive donations in October 2024.
On Dec. 18, 2024, FGCU students gathered to load gifts into cars and fill carts with Christmas presents.
“Volunteering at the Salvation Army is something I’ve looked forward to in my five years at FGCU,” said student Rebecca Winn. “Being able to spread Christmas joy by giving back to the local community alongside my teammates is so rewarding as a reminder of the impact we can have outside the pool.”
