FORT MYERS, Florida ( MyFloridaNews ) — Bruce Plummer has been sentenced to 144 months in prison for a crime involving the theft and crash of a plane at Page Field Airport. He will also serve 60 months on state probation and pay restitution, according to the Office of the State Attorney.Plummer was found guilty of two counts of burglary while armed, grand theft, possession of a bulletproof vest during the commission of a felony, and armed trespassing. He was ordered to pay $261,748.83 in restitution to Endurance American Insurance Company, with additional restitution reserved for three other victims and Page Field Airport. The court also mandated that Plummer pay court costs, the cost of prosecution, forfeit any firearms, and undergo a mental health evaluation.The incident occurred on February 26, 2024, when Lee County Port Authority Police responded to a report of a stolen plane at Page Field Airport. Maintenance personnel discovered a damaged aircraft that had crashed into a light pole and the perimeter fence, with its wing broken and the plane sitting in the grass off the ramp. A gun and tactical ballistic vest were found nearby, according to the press release.Surveillance footage captured a man arriving in a black Dodge Charger, scaling a barbed wire fence, and attempting to start and move two planes before crashing the third. The same individual was identified in footage from a nearby convenience store, leading to Plummer’s identification. A search of his residence revealed clothing and shoes matching those worn during the crime, and a torn black jacket was found in the Dodge Charger, matching material left on the barbed wire fence.Assistant State Attorney Ryan Pomponio prosecuted the case.
