Longtime Lincoln Park Academy coach Wendell Adams has had a lot of wins — 525 to be exact.
In four tries against Dwayne Donnell, Adams was 0-4 against Donnell’s teams at Dunbar from 2012-15. Each of those times, the Tigers were the ones responsible for ending the Greyhounds’ seasons.
The fifth time for Adams was finally the charm. And with that, win No. 526 arrived with a trophy.
Lincoln Park (14-0) continued their historic start, staying unbeaten and cruising to a 54-43 wire-to-wire Queen of Palms Championship win over Donnell’s Evangelical Christian squad, the defending champions in Class 2A.
“I’ve never beaten him,” Adams said of Donnell. “This was sweet redemption. We had a little chuckle about that after the game. I thought our girls played a complete game all around. We defended well, the 32 press worked pretty well for us. We hit open shots.”
Lincoln Park jumped out to a quick 10-4 lead in the first, finding success inside the paint against the Sentinels. ECS would respond by quarter’s end, only trailing 13-11 after a strong defensive effort that resulted in points on the offensive end.
