A 24-year-old Lee County man was killed in a three-vehicle crash early New Year’s Day, state police say.
The Lehigh Acres shortly before 5 a.m. was driving a car south on Bell Boulevard, approaching a stop sign at the intersection of State Road 82, Florida State Police said in a news release.
At the same time, a 57-year-old Cape Coral man was driving an SUV while a 57-year-old Immokalee was driving a pickup west on State Road 82, on the inside and outside lanes, FHP said.
The Lehigh Acres man failed to yield at the stop sign and entered the direct path of the SUV, causing the front of the SUV to collide with the left side of the car. The 24-year-old ― who was not wearing a seat belt ― was ejected from the car and came to rest on the westbound travel lanes of State Road 82, FHP said.
The pickup then hit the 24-year-old, who was pronounced dead at the scene, state troopers said. The 57-year-old Cape Coral man suffered minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
