Judge rules lawsuit against Charlotte County priest can proceed

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The alleged victim suing Charlotte County priest Leo Riley got a big legal win on Friday after a judge ruled the case can proceed as scheduled.

The defense for Father Riley and the Diocese of Venice tried to avoid a trial by arguing the alleged victim, going by John Doe, waited too long to come forward with his claims of being sexually abused and that he did not have sufficient evidence to back his claims.

A previous motion filed by the defense said, “Doe remembers nothing; he has no independent recollection of any of the alleged sexual abuse.”…
