A Florida man shot his granddaughter dead during an argument after she had kept him awake by slamming doors, police said.
On March 1, just before 3:30 a.m., Jose Mogro shot and killed his granddaughter, Maria Rangel, before calling the police and reporting himself, according to Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies arrived at the home on McDill Drive in Port Charlotte where they found 67-year-old Mogro, his wife, and his deceased granddaughter with a gunshot wound to her chest.
The victim was lying face up on the floor and was quickly pronounced dead at the scene. Morgo was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. “It seems very straightforward,” said Pamella Seay, criminal justice professor and attorney at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Mogro had welcomed his 38-year-old granddaughter into his home three weeks prior to the shooting in an attempt to get her back on her feet after suffering mental health issues. He also claims Maria had been verbally aggressive and her behavior had worsened in recent days…
