Punta Gorda shelves downtown flood study for now

PUNTA GORDA — Instead of paying $744,995 for a comprehensive flood study, Punta Gorda Mayor Debi Lux suggested retired engineers might volunteer to help the city find solutions to downtown flooding.

At a recent meeting, Lux balked at the costly proposal to pay Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. of Fort Myers to evaluate the downtown stormwater management system.

Over 18 months, Kimley-Horn would use existing data on stormwater management system, ground cover, rainfall and tidal data to do hydrologic and hydraulic modeling of the system…
