All Trailers Must Be Gone in 60 Days

On Wednesday the Town of Fort Myers Beach sent out a press release reminding residents and business owners using trailers to live in, or to operate a business out of, they must be gone by September 23rd, 2025.

Town Manager Will McKannay said, “The Town is committed to working with residents to ensure a smooth and timely process as these permits come to an end.”

Allowing trailers was meant to help bridge the gap between losing everything in Hurricane Ian and rebuilding homes and business on the island– or selling the property. Previously business owners who were on the road to rebuilding (ie: paperwork in the town’s permit portal) they could remain in the trailers until they were close to opening. The Town Council wanted to encourage people to move along with rebuilding to start to get the island more functional. It’s unclear if that caveat still applies with this new deadline…
