Suspect’s girlfriend now linked to counterfeit cash cases, sheriff said

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WWSB) – A man faces charges for allegedly buying used cell phones using counterfeit money and reselling them, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies say John Austin Aufderheide contacted his victim on June 1 through Facebook Marketplace, saying he wanted to buy the victim’s iPhone 12 for $150.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Aufderheide showed up at the victim’s house and paid what appeared to be $144 in cash, and saying he would send the remaining $6 through CashApp…
