This year marks the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII and the 16th year that the nationwide Spirit of ’45 initiative has been in effect. While the number of WWII veterans is dwindling, it is imperative that we are proactive in keeping this generation’s legacy alive.
This year’s event is an elegant sit-down dinner followed by a well-rounded veterans ceremony being held at The Club at Pelican Preserve in Fort Myers on August 10. Dinner starts at 4:15 p.m. The ceremony includes Honor Guard, singing of the national anthem, guest speakers, pipes and drums band, and Taps at the end. This is just a small summary of all which will go on that day.
I am additionally asking that anyone who knows a WWII veteran, who is willing and able to attend, please send them to me. I want to see as many WWII veterans in attendance as possible. There are still too many out there who haven’t heard of this initiative, and I implore you to help raise awareness before it’s too late. Please help honor these wonderful members of our greatest generation…
