Oklahoma Convict Sentenced: Gun-Wielding Felon Caught In Florida Traffic Stop

Man Receives 3.5 Years for Violating Federal Law

An Oklahoma man, residing in Lehigh Acres, Florida, has been sentenced to three years and six months in federal prison for illegally possessing a loaded firearm as a convicted felon. U.S. District Judge Sheri Polster Chappell handed down the sentence today to Andre Dominique Barnes, 35, following his guilty plea on April 9, 2025.

Barnes was also ordered to forfeit the firearm and ammunition involved in the offense.

According to court documents, Barnes’ illegal possession came to light on September 20, 2024, when he was pulled over by the Florida Highway Patrol in Lee County for speeding. During the stop, troopers discovered a loaded pistol in his vehicle. Barnes, identified by his Oklahoma identification card, was also found to have a suspended driver’s license…
