New program designed to train Lee students on trade jobs in high demand

Junior Achievement of Southwest Florida just celebrated its first graduating class from its Pre-Apprenticeship Program.

Here’s what to know about the service provided by the Fort Myers-based organization.

What is Junior Achievement’s Pre-Apprenticeship Program?

Recognizing demand for “middle-skill” employees, the non-profit developed the program to help participants fast-track a career in multiple trade industries by outlining their goals for the future and coordinating the steps necessary to achieve them, according to Junior Achievement known as JA.

With 50% of American jobs requiring more than a high school diploma, JA of Southwest Florida created the endeavor to train participants for professional careers experiencing high demand. This effort provides a 6-month, work-based learning experience that aims to benefit both student and the employer hosting the apprentice.

What led Junior Achievement to make decision on program?

The organization “focuses on solutions for our students and our community, so it made perfect sense to bridge the gap for our local workforce needs with students who are seeking trade careers,” Angela Fisher, JA of Southwest Florida CEO, said in July. “We are extremely proud of the students who have completed the Pre-Apprenticeship Program, and are thrilled that 19 of the 22 graduates have found a great match for their career and employment goals.”…
