Tallahassee, Fla. – Strong afternoon and evening thunderstorms are set to impact much of Florida and parts of southern Georgia today, bringing the potential for heavy rainfall, frequent lightning, and localized flooding. The most intense storms will target the Florida Big Bend, west central Florida, and far south Georgia, with some areas picking up one to two inches of rain before midnight.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Tallahassee and Tampa Bay, the heaviest rainfall will fall in the late afternoon and early evening, creating a marginal flooding risk in urban and low-lying areas. Winds could gust as high as 45 mph in stronger storms, while lightning will remain a primary hazard for those outdoors.
In Florida’s west central coast, communities from Tampa to Fort Myers face widespread showers with pockets of torrential rain. Farther north, Tallahassee, Valdosta, and nearby counties will see scattered severe cells capable of downing small limbs and briefly ponding roads…
