3 arrested for picking palmetto berries without permit, Florida deputies say

PLACIDA, Fla. (WFLA) — Three people were arrested for picking palmetto berries Saturday without a permit, according to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office responded to a call around 7 p.m. reporting a suspicious vehicle parked in a bush near Brig Circle East in Placida.

At the scene, deputies said they found three individuals: Maria Inez Sanchez, Amilcar Mejia Sanchez, and Lady Martinez-Espinosa, who they believed were illegally harvesting saw palmetto berries…
