THINKING TIKI: City lost its Bayfront Center; chickee-style hut could replace it

PUNTA GORDA — The Punta Gorda City Council is set to discuss three design idea options for the Bayfront Center footprint at Wednesday’s meeting.

After hurricanes Ian, Helene and Milton destroyed the old building at Gilchrist Park, the city had it torn down and removed, spending $122,000 from insurance reimbursements.

It has about $1.17 million in remaining funds, plus $343,000 originally budgeted for the facility…
