Charlotte County woman accused of stabbing 12-year-old girl awaiting competency hearing

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – A woman accused of stabbing a 12-year-old girl and leaving her for dead in a Charlotte County wildlife area awaits her next competency hearing

A court order filed August 26 shows Gwendolyn Girard, 35, pled not guilty during a status hearing in June.

Girard is charged with aggravated battery causing great bodily harm or disability and aggravated battery on a child in connection with the May 26 attack at the Cecil Webb Wildlife Management Area.

Deputies say the 12-year-old victim was found bleeding from stab wounds to her face and neck after passersby discovered her in the woods. The girl told investigators she was pushed to the ground, pinned by Girard’s knee, and stabbed multiple times. She survived by pretending to play dead until Girard drove away…
