Man Arrested for Spraying Couple with Bug Spray at Port Charlotte Publix

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.—A Port Charlotte man was arrested on Sunday after allegedly spraying a couple with bug spray during an altercation at a Publix grocery store.

Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Publix on Cochran Blvd. after receiving a call about a physical altercation. The incident began inside the store in the checkout line, where the suspect, identified as Daniel John Kenel, 65, became upset when a woman told him she was waiting for her husband and was already in line.

The argument continued as the couple and Kenel began placing their items on the checkout belt. The female victim’s husband intervened, and Kenel left his cart and ran out of the store. He then positioned his vehicle on the other side of the parking lot. As the couple was loading their groceries into their car, Kenel allegedly ran up behind them and sprayed both of them in the face with a can of bug spray before fleeing the scene.
