Cape Coral man charged with murder of his mother

CAPE CORAL, Florida — A 69-year-old woman was found dead in her home with multiple stab wounds, leading to the arrest of her son, according to the Cape Coral Police Department. The incident occurred on September 16, 2025, when family members discovered the body of Rosemary Johnson at 4338 Jacaranda Pkwy W.

Officers identified the suspect as 28-year-old Devin Bryant Johnson, of Cape Coral, Florida, who was seen leaving the residence in a 2019 gray Toyota Corolla shortly before police arrived. A BOLO (Be On the Lookout) was issued, and with assistance from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Collier County Deputies, Johnson was apprehended after a pursuit that ended in Naples. During his arrest, Johnson resisted law enforcement, struck a K9, and attempted to seize an officer’s firearm, stated the source.

The vehicle driven by Johnson was found with blood on both the exterior and interior, and his shoes also had noticeable blood stains. Johnson was initially booked into the Collier County Jail on charges including Fleeing and Eluding Law Enforcement, Battery on Law Enforcement, Attempting to take a Law Enforcement Officer’s Firearm, and Animal Cruelty.
