A father’s journey: How Jason kept his family together

Being a parent is hard. Being a single parent is even harder.

Many parents navigate raising a family on their own. Some have no one to turn to with questions or when they need advice. That’s how Better Together came to be. We created a privately funded nonprofit dedicated to strengthening families. Our programs help parents in all stages of parenthood.

Whether it’s helping parents going through a hard time or helping them find a job, we work to keep their children out of foster care. We do this by harnessing the power of the church community, volunteers, donors and caring supporters.

Jason’s story is an example of our work.

Jason is a Fort Myers father of two, Jaslyn and Madelyn. Recently, the girls’ mother left the family. This shift resulted in Jason being unable to afford childcare. He lost his job. The family began living in a tent at a park. When their conditions worsened, they made their way to the Salvation Army. There were no family units available. The Salvation Army referred Jason to Better Together…
