Arctic blast brings near-record cold to Fort Myers Monday with rapid temperature drop

The cold front sweeping across the eastern United States is set to move through Southwest Florida, bringing sudden cold, dry air. After a weekend of warmth, Fort Myers residents will feel up to a 20-degree drop Monday, with the coldest conditions still ahead Monday night.

Cold air was expected to begin filtering into the region around 5 or 6 a.m. Monday, according to the National Weather Service’s (NWS) Tampa Bay office.

“The colder air is going to start diving in, even though it’s sunny,” meteorologist Stephen Shiveley said. “You’re going to feel that cooler breeze all throughout the day.”…
