Cape Coral has kicked off a fundraiser to construct a 250-foot flagpole that’ll become the tallest free-standing American flagpole in Florida. The “Raise the Flag” campaign aims to collect $500,000 for the pole, which will commemorate the United States’ 250th birthday in July 2026.
City Manager Michael Ilczyszyn proposed the project. He announced the campaign kick-off at the Nov. 5, 2025, City Council meeting. The pole will stand near the Veterans Memorial Monument at Bernice Braden Park.
“During the budget discussion, I had mentioned to you all I had a vision for how we would celebrate the July 4 anniversary for next year, being the 250th anniversary.
