80-year-old Villager nabbed on DUI charge after leaving birthday party

An 80-year-old Villager was nabbed on a drunk driving charge while driving home from a birthday party.

Margaret McDonough of the Village of Sanibel was driving a white 2022 Hyundai Elantra shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday when a 911 caller reported to law enforcement that the vehicle was traveling significantly under the posted speed limit down Buena Vista Boulevard near County Road 466A, according to an arrest report the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy spotted the vehicle and activated his emergency lights in an effort to initiate a traffic stop. However, McDonough continued driving for another half mile before finally pulling over. The Philadelphia native was asked why she was driving so slowly and responded that she “always drives slow.” She said she was heading home from a birthday party. It appeared she had been drinking…
