Lee County Schools announces over 180 school bus crashes in 2024, reminds drivers of new bus cams

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — According to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, there were 181 accidents involving school buses in Lee County in 2024.

The School District of Lee County is reminding drivers that even one accident is too many. They added a reminder that Bus Patrol enforcement with cameras powered by artificial intelligence starts in December.

A grace period has been in effect for drivers caught speeding past stopped buses on camera since Nov. 6; however, enforcement will begin soon on Dec. 8. Fines for violations are $225, and all violations are manually reviewed before fines are doled out…
