Salary incentive battle ruled in favor of School Board of Lee County

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — In a battle over salary incentives at Lee County schools, a ruling came back in favor of the School Board of Lee County on Monday.

The conclusions reached by the hearing officer in the ruling determined that the board did not have to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the Teachers Association of Lee County (TALC) before it adopted a resolution regarding incentives. In addition, legal documents outline that the board can establish differential salary schedules as salary incentives for employees at schools that aren’t rated as “D” or “F” schools under sections 1001.42(21) and 1012.2315, Florida Statutes.

On Aug. 11, TALC filed an unfair labor practice complaint that accused the school board of violating Florida sections and statutes when the board adopted Resolution 2025-0603, according to legal documents. That resolution declared an “educational emergency” in the School District of Lee County and adopted salary incentives and teacher assignments to address the issues and help access to academically at-risk schools in the county…
