Cape Coral police arrest suspect linked to multiple burglaries and thefts

CAPE CORAL, Florida — The Cape Coral Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a series of vehicle burglaries, residential thefts, and grand thefts that have plagued neighborhoods in Cape Coral over the past month.

On November 7, 2025, officers responded to a reported vehicle burglary on SW 26th Ave, where a victim reported the theft of several items, including a camouflage jacket, a softball bag, and cash. Surveillance footage captured a male suspect carrying bulky items away from the vehicle. Property Crimes Detectives later connected Richard Steven Chinn, age 47, of Cape Coral, Florida, to a growing number of crimes, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.

On November 20, 2025, a new burglary was reported on SW 38th Street, where a male suspect on a pink bicycle was seen stealing a scooter valued at $1,000. The scooter had been modified with a trailer-style bike attachment featuring a red helmet and an American flag. Two days later, officers responded to SW 26th Pl. regarding an unknown male at a new construction property.
