FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The town of Fort Myers Beach has warned that scammers are placing fake QR codes to direct people to fraudulent payment sites, which not only steal money but also personal information. The town advises that fake stickers often contain misspellings or unusual links.
Resident Jerry Grodeski commented on the challenge of vigilance in a relaxed beach environment.
“It’s a double-edged sword, because you’re in paradise. People are running around in beach clothes, and they’re anxious to get on the beach. Are they going to really stopping and looking at if something’s misspelled?” he said…
