Florida teens set fire to American flag, church sign in series of arsons, police say

CAPE CORAL, Fla. (WFLA) — Two teens are facing charges following a series of arsons in which Cape Coral police said they burned an American flag, a church sign, and other items, causing significant damage at multiple locations.

The first incident was reported by a park ranger who on Wednesday, Dec. 10 found “extensive damage” inside the men’s and women’s restrooms at the Pelican Baseball Complex, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.

A fire had been set in both bathrooms, and sinks, soap dispensers, and toilet paper dispensers had been broken off the walls and smashed on the floors, police said. Officials also found burnt items inside the toilets.

Security footage showed two teens, ages 15 and 16, going into the bathrooms around 2 a.m. Smoke could then be seen billowing out of the restrooms, authorities said.

The suspects are believed to have been involved in at least two more incidents while investigators were searching for them…
