On November 26, 2025, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the conviction of Ivan Gutierrez Miranda. Miranda is a Cuban national who entered the United States in 2022. He was found guilty of stealing and reselling trailers intended for Hurricane Ian victims in Fort Myers, Florida. The trailers were meant to provide temporary housing for people displaced by the hurricane.
The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Highway Patrol led the investigation. Authorities found that Miranda and others took the trailers at night. Investigators obtained a video in which Miranda advertised the stolen trailers.
