Florida A&M University student and Fort Myers native Mardochee Simon, 26, wanted more for his life, so he left his hometown to pursue higher education in the state capital.
And although he was set to walk across the stage Dec. 12 during FAMU’s fall graduation ceremony to experience the milestone of receiving his bachelor’s in psychology, his life ended five days prior. Simon died on Dec. 7 due to undisclosed physical health issues.
“I’m still trying to grasp the fact that he’s really gone,” Simon’s older brother Sam Simon wrote in a Dec. 8 Facebook post. “My mind keeps replaying memories of him. I keep replaying the reality of it in my mind, trying to make sense of something that will never make sense. The finality of death… the fact that I will never hear his voice again… the reality that I can’t call him, can’t hug him, can’t laugh with him… it’s almost too heavy to hold.”…
