Fort Myers Beach regains 25% flood insurance discount after FEMA rating rebound post-Ian

FORT MYERS BEACH, Fla. — The town of Fort Myers Beach announced that it has regained its Class 5 Federal Emergency Management Agency rating, unlocking a 25% flood insurance discount.

For residents, the town says, this means that most flood insurance policies will receive a 25% discount. They add that there will be stronger flood protections for homes and businesses.

A letter sent to the town from FEMA said that voluntary actions taken by the town have exceeded the minimum standards of the program and meet the criteria for a Class 5 in the Community Rating System.

The town had previously lost its rating in 2024 and was placed on probation from the National Flood Insurance Program due to noncompliance findings…
