Nearly 1,000 Lee County students may lose bus service under new plan

Nearly 1,000 Lee County high schoolers could lose their district-provided bus ride next year, as the school district rolls out a transportation overhaul meant to cut down on long, early-morning routes.

The change is part of the newly released 2026–2027 Transportation Plan, which the School Board approved to address lengthy travel times and inefficient routes. The plan does not affect the current 2025–2026 school year. All changes take effect in August 2026.

Under the new system, the district is shrinking transportation boundaries for nine high schools. Officials estimate that roughly 900 current students live outside those revised zones and will no longer qualify for district busing once the new boundaries are implemented…
