Port Charlotte Caregiver Arrested After Stealing More Than $30K From Disabled Vietnam Veteran

A Port Charlotte woman has been arrested after investigators say she stole tens of thousands of dollars in valuables from a disabled Vietnam veteran who was under her care.

According to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, the investigation began on December 21, 2025, when a Port Charlotte man reported that someone had accessed his Winchester gun safe and stolen gold jewelry along with multiple forms of currency. The total value of the stolen property was estimated at $30,350.

Detectives learned the victim is an elderly, disabled Vietnam veteran who receives assistance through a home health care service. During the investigation, deputies discovered that a caregiver assigned to the victim had pawned items later confirmed to be the stolen property…
