Meth dealer sentenced to seven years in prison for selling near school

PORT CHARLOTTE, Florida — Ronnie Sherman Leatherwood has been sentenced to seven years in prison for selling methamphetamine near an elementary school, according to the Office of State Attorney Amira Fox.

Leatherwood, adjudicated guilty and sentenced as a Habitual Felony Offender, was prosecuted by Assistant State Attorney Nolan Deming. In 2025, Leatherwood sold methamphetamine twice to an undercover narcotics detective within 1,000 feet of a school. The first transaction involved 7.6 grams of meth, while the second sale was just under 14 grams.

The defendant was found guilty of two counts of Sale or Delivery of a Controlled Substance within 1,000 feet of a School, one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance, one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell or Deliver, and two counts of Possession of Paraphernalia.
