FORT MYERS, Fla. — A cold front is set to move through the region throughout the day Sunday, and it will bring significant changes to the Gulf Coast. Starting around 9 a.m., showers will start to develop and push through Southwest Florida. Expect rain to stick around until around 4 p.m. this afternoon, although coverage will only peak at about 40%.
While the front moves through, winds will pick up with gusts as high as 30 mph. The increased winds will contribute to elevated fire danger. The fire danger bumps up to critical Monday as winds stay gusty and relative humidity drops. For that reason, there is a fire weather watch from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Behind the front, temperatures start to tank tonight. A cold weather advisory was issued for all of the Gulf Coast from 3 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday for very low wind chills dropping into the 30s by daybreak Monday morning. Highs on Monday will only climb into the 50s and 60s in the afternoon hours.
Tuesday morning will be the coldest start of the week, and we could tie or break some records as lows fall into the 30s.
A freeze watch was issued for inland Charlotte, DeSoto, Hendry and Glades counties from Monday night until Tuesday morning.
