Cape Coral man charged with DUI manslaughter after fatal crash

CAPE CORAL, Florida — A Cape Coral man has been charged with DUI manslaughter following a fatal two-vehicle crash on February 22, 2026, according to the Cape Coral Police Department.

At approximately 1:05 a.m., officers responded to the crash near Beach Parkway West, where an orange pickup truck had overturned, trapping two occupants, and a blue Chevrolet Silverado was found in the median with significant front-end damage. The Chevrolet, driven by 22-year-old Tyler Paul Janson, of Cape Coral, had collided with the pickup, resulting in the death of an adult female passenger at the scene and serious injuries to the adult male driver, who was transported to a local hospital. A child passenger from the Chevrolet was also evaluated for injuries.

Janson, who remained at the scene, showed signs of impairment and admitted to consuming alcohol and using medical marijuana earlier in the evening. Traffic Homicide Investigators obtained security footage showing the orange pickup backing from a driveway before being struck by Janson’s vehicle.
