Fort Myers man busted with stolen pistol during traffic stop, pleads guilty in federal court

FORT MYERS, Fla. — A Fort Myers man has pleaded guilty in federal court to illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition after deputies found a loaded handgun on him during a traffic stop in Charlotte County.

According to the Department of Justice, Jose Manuel Caraballo-Torres, 39, faces up to 15 years in federal prison after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped for speeding on Sept. 27, 2025, by the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office.
