Cape Coral, FL – On March 2, 2026, at approximately 3:59 p.m., Cape Coral Police officers responded to the Mobil Gas Station at 1541 Del Prado Boulevard North for a reported stolen black Jeep Wrangler. The victim reported his vehicle was taken while he was inside the store, and an Apple AirTag attached to his keys later pinged to a residence in the 1800 block of Northeast 20th Terrace.
Officers quickly located the stolen Jeep in the backyard of an unoccupied residence in the 1800 block of Northeast 21st Street. A neighborhood canvass produced multiple home security videos showing a male in a gray hooded sweatshirt parking the Jeep, walking toward the Northeast 20th Terrace residence, lifting a garbage can lid, and entering the front lanai. Additional video from the gas station showed a similarly dressed male approach from a nearby area, enter the victim’s Jeep, and drive away.
With consent from the residents, officers and detectives searched the property on Northeast 20th Terrace connected with the AirTag. A gray hooded sweatshirt consistent with the one seen on video was located in the lanai. Using the AirTag’s audible alert, detectives then found the victim’s car keys and AirTag concealed inside storage bins with Christmas decorations in the garage.
