Eaglet’s first flight captured on popular Southwest Florida Eagle Cam

NORTH FORT MYERS, Fla. (WFLA) — All eyes have been on an eaglet in Southwest Florida as the young bird grows and prepares to leave the nest.

The eaglet, known as E26, took its first flight Tuesday on the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam, a 24/7 livestream beloved by many.

E26 made two quick circles in the sky before returning safely to a branch above the nest. The young eagle could be seen stretching its wings and practicing more Wednesday as it flew from branch to branch, but still never strayed far.

E26 is now about 11 weeks old, which is around the time eagles begin to become independent from their parents. Most young eagles leave the nest a few days after their first flight, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission…
