More than a dozen rescuers help struggling 1,042lb sea cow, baby

It was all hands — and flippers — on deck when a nearly 10-foot mama manatee needed a lifeline in Southwest Florida.

After a 1,042-pound manatee was seen fighting for her life in Cape Coral waters on Wednesday, March 4, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) launched an urgent rescue mission for the struggling mother, according to the FWC.
