From ranchland to suburb: Developer wants 561 acres, 737 homes in Alva

Rangeland owned by one of Southwest Florida’s most storied pioneer families – land once set aside to protect drinking water – could become more than 700 homes if the nation’s largest developer gets its way.

Forestar, a subsidiary of homebuilder D.R. Horton, wants permission to turn the 561-acre tract in the Olga/Alva area into “737 single-family dwelling units, private, on-site recreation facilities and supportive infrastructure,” according to a public notice.
