TAMPA – FGCU’s Siyabonga Mokgothu claimed his first spring race win and posted the second-fastest 5,000-meter time in school history as he led the Eagles at the Tampa Distance Classic on Friday night.
The junior distance runner clocked 14:34.89 in the 5K race, winning by nearly a half-second in a crowded field of over 50 runners. Not far behind Mokgothu was Evan Casterline, who finished fifth as he ran 14:55.69, the 13th-fastest time in school history.
In the men’s 1,500m, Innocent Ntwali finished fourth. His mark of 3:59.21 now ranks fourth in school history, overtaking the 2017 time of Carlin Berryhill of 3:59.23…
